Some counties run Alcohol Beverage Control stores; state law prohibits counties from passing liquor laws more restrictive than state’s, but hours and license types allowed (liquor, beer-wine, etc.) vary widely by county; Montgomery, Somerset, Wicomico, Worcester counties have county-run ABC wholesale and retail operations; Montgomery County itself operates 25 wine and liquor ABC stores, delivers wholesale liquor to 1,000 privately owned stores; some parts of Baltimore, Garrett counties do not allow Sunday sales; cities permitted to have local laws on alcohol sales on Election Day, holidays; 18-year-olds permitted to tend bar.
